Dear YMCA Friends:
For the first time in 43 years, YMCA of the USA has unveiled a new brand strategy. You may have seen or heard about it since we’ve received quite a bit of national and local media attention recently.
The Y has been one of the most important nonprofits in the United States for decades. But recent research showed that our cause and impact are not fully understood. We are changing how we talk about ourselves so that people better understand the benefits of the work we do in this community.
This process includes highlighting the three key areas where we impact lives: Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
We are increasing understanding of the impact that YMCAs make in communities across the country, extending our reach into communities to nurture the potential of youth and teens, improve the nation’s health and well-being and provide opportunities to support neighbors.
Some changes will happen immediately including the new Y logo you see on all of the Sonoma County Family YMCA websites, others will be phased in over time. The new logo, with its forward-looking design and multiple color options, reflects the vibrancy of our organization and the diversity of the communities we serve.
As a responsible non-profit we are taking the re-branding process one step at a time here in Sonoma County. It would be disruptive and impractical to transform all of our communications overnight. You will also see the Y’s classic Y Logo for a while so as not to waste the inventory of stationery and other printed materials.
It’s important to note that our mission remains unchanged: to seek to enhance the lives of all people through programs designed to develop spirit, mind and body. We are dedicated to the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Also, the redesigned logo maintains a triangle shape on the top right of the “Y” symbolizing the spirit, mind and body that is the foundation of the Y’s heritage.
Moving forward we will be using the nickname "The Y" more frequently - because that is how people in communities nationwide most commonly refer to us.
Your feedback and impression of the new Y logo and branding is welcomed!
