PARENT/CHILD
In the YMCA Adventure Guides, parents and kids participate in dozens of activities
including camping, games, family adventures that foster understanding and companionship.
Share adventures in fun, learning and mutual understanding while building a friendship
with your child that will last a life time. Any parent with a child in grades K through
3 is eligible to join. When there is no parent to participate in the program, any adult
21 or older (i.e., aunt, uncle, grandparent, "big brother or sister", family friend)
may serve as the child's sponsor. Many of the special monthly activities are for the
entire family to enjoy together. Each circle is free to plan additional activities such as
family camp-outs or picnics.
The Y provides general guidelines and offers administrative support to the programs.
A "Federation Meeting" is scheduled once a month where a Y person meets with representatives of
each Circle to plan Expedition events.
PROGRAM INFORMATION
There are now two Parent/Child Programs: Y-Adventure Guides for fathers and sons;
Y-Princesses for fathers and daughters. The basic unit of the program is a circle.
The organization of a circle is as follows:
• Circles are organized by boys or girls, preferably by neighborhood.
• Circles are comprised of 6-9 Parent/Child couples.
• Circles meet once or twice a monthly.
Homes of members are rotated as meeting sites.
• Meeting activities include songs, games, stories and crafts.
• Parents and children attend meetings together.
• Each couple receives a manual as a guide, but are encouraged
to exercise creativity in activities.
• Each Circle belongs to an Expedition that holds monthly special
events such as camping, skating, swimming, derby races and much more.
• Members must register annually through the Sonoma County Family YMCA.

Newcomers:
$60.00 a pair
$25.00 per extra child / new family
Returning/Current:
$50.00 a pair
$25.00 per extra child / returning family
