Fitness for the Family
For Parent & Kids 8-12
The YMCA is all about kids and families, and we want to make it simple for you and your family to be healthy! In our Fitness Center, we welcome 8-12 year olds to utilize the cardio equipment with direct adult supervision. Please see “Family Fitness” regarding use of strength-training equipment. We look forward to supporting your family’s well-being!
The YMCA Family Fitness program allows a parent/youth (ages 8-12) team to strength train in the YMCA Fitness Center after completing a minimum of 2 Fitness Orientations with a YMCA Health and Fitness Coach and having a signed agreement on file. The parent/child teams must attend the orientations together.
Our Health and Fitness staff has developed a Strength Training routine for youth 8-12 years old that is safe, effective and fun. If it is determined that our Precor equipment does not fit your child's need, size, or abilities, we also have alternative exercises using free weights and other tools that we can demonstrate.
You will be given a Family Fitness Workout card for your child and during orientations our team will discuss safety issues, how and why to warm-up and stretch.
The Fitness Center is reserved for Adults Only, Mondays through Thursdays, 5:00 - 7:00 PM. During this time children 8 - 12 are not permitted on the Fitness Center Floor.
Teens 13 & 14 years: Cardio workouts are allowed without supervision. Teens must complete an orientation with a Wellness Coach and must have liability waiver on file in Member Center prior to working out alone.
Members 15 years & over: Fitness Orientations available but not required.
Fitness Center upstairs may be used the hours before 5 pm and after the hours of 7 pm. Includes Bikes, Ellipticals, Stairmasters, Rowing Machines, Arc Trainers and Treadmills.
Cardio Room Downstairs may be used throughout our hours of operation with adult supervision. Machines includes Ellipticals and Stairmaster. Closed toe shoes must be worn.
Health and Fitness Coaches may determine a piece of cardio equipment to be unsafe for your child at anytime. Health and Fitness Coaches are available for instructions.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday adults are invited to pick up a game of hoops during Y’s traditional “Noontime Basketball”. Adults 18+ 12:00-1:15 pm. Ages 16+ 1:15-2:30 pm. Also offered Tuesday evening. Check the current Activity Center schedule for times. Be ready to sweat!
